Time to Stand Up

Now that the President has declared that RH BILL will be prioritized it is time to stand up for those who believe that the said bill should not passed. I personally do not agree with the bill even if they changed some of the provisions on the said bill. No matter what even if it is based on scientific truth as what others are saying I believe that this is a non-sense bill.  Preventing unwanted pregnancy and educating everyone about contraceptives doesn’t help us escape poverty. Catholics or non-Catholics we all believe in the value of life and the sanctity of marriage. Opposing to the said bill doesn’t mean that you are a NOT a free thinker. They said that Filipinos are copy cats and that Catholics are copy-cats of other Catholic countries and those countries have reproductive health bills and divorce. Well, I cannot say NO to that but even if we are Catholics same as those other countries it doesn’t mean that we should also copy what they are doing even if we think it is wrong. There are lot of things that our government should prioritize why focus on reproductive health? To avoid unwanted pregnancy?, Protection from  sexually transmitted disease? hmmm… that made me wonder because last time I saw on TV that  there are cases of unwanted pregnancy in the US and it involves teenagers given that they have reproductive health bill. Last time I saw in iWitness’s “KALAM” they featured a poor family they have 6 kids and the father is a fisherman. Sometimes he can’t get anything so he won’t have any fish to sell. Now, they have six kids and let’s say because of reproductive health instead of having six kids they had only two. Do you think it will change anything?

iWitness "Kalam"

After watching iWitness awhile ago I suddenly realized how important it is to not to waste anything especially your food. iWitness "kalam" or hunger is a real eye opener for me. It shows the real life of a poor family on how they trying to survive each day. I felt pity for those people and I hope our government will do something about it. Imagine a family who only eats rice and salt every day. The head of the family is a fisherman but there are days that he can't catch anything which means no food for his family. Children are luck if they have coffee that they can drink every morning otherwise they will go to school with an empty stomach. I questioned myself how come our government is not doing anything to help these poor people. Well they think they are doing something which is to help the people learn how to do family planning and use contraceptives. They say over population increases poverty but I personally think that over population is not the reason why lot of people are not eating properly. Come to think of it the family that I have mentioned has I beleive four children. Let' say their parents tried family planning so instead of having four children they only have two do you think they will not be on the same situation if they only have to children? They father a fisherman sometimes could not catch any fish or crab at all an aside from being a fisherman they don't have any other source of income. Well they collect firewoods that they can sell for 15 Php per bundle so you can say they earn at least 50 Php a day do you think their situation would be better if they have only two children instead of four? I but not it would still be the same. But what if, their parents we're given a chance to learn something that will help them have a good source of income let's say a skills program or anything. Do you think their situation will be better? Well there is a big chance because they will be given an opportunity to improve their lives and feed their childrenn properly.
